ISO 22000:2018 specifies requirements for a food safety management system (FSMS) and provides a framework for how an organization should build its food safety management system.

All the requirements in the ISO 22000 standard are generic and are intended to apply to all organizations in the supply chain, regardless of size and complexity. 

Implementation of a management system according to ISO 22000 can have both internal and external effects on your organisation. Examples may be; 

Internal Effects:

  • Ensure compliance with the Food Safety Policy

ISO 22000 is supplemented by five technical standards, depending on the industry the business belongs to:

  • ISO/TS 22002-1 – Food production
  • ISO/TS 22002-2 – Catering
  • ISO/TS 22002-3 – Agriculture
  • ISO/TS 22002-4 – Food packaging
  • ISO/TS 22002-5 – Transport and storage
